Trucks carry goods on its way to neighboring Afghanistan

At least two people have been killed, and dozens are feared trapped after a thunder and lightning storm-triggered landslide buried more than 20 trucks on the main road through Pakistan’s Khyber Pass on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday on the primary route that connects Pakistan with land-locked Afghanistan, which is a significant transit point for trade between the South Asian nations and into Central Asia.

Abdul Nasir Khan, the deputy commissioner of the Khyber district, reported that 20 to 25 containers are buried in the wreckage.

Two Afghan citizens have been killed, and three others have been taken to the hospital, and the number of casualties may rise.

The rescue operation is ongoing with heavy machinery.

Pictures posted by officials show truck containers buried in large piles of rocks.
