Police in Mumbai, India busted a fake call center that duped Australians by monitoring the eatery nearby.

The center, located in a house outside the financial capital of India, was staffed with dozens of employees who were not allowed to leave the building.

Police received a tip-off that someone was repeatedly ordering dozens of breakfasts from a nearby eatery every morning at 4:00 am.

The strange activity raised police suspicions and they secretly monitored the location until they eventually raided the house.

The center had a floor with 60 workstations, and police arrested the owner and 47 employees.

They have been charged with impersonation, cheating, and fraud under India’s Information Technology Act.

The investigation revealed that young employees were trained to receive calls from unsuspecting bank customers from Australia.

The employees allegedly extracted sensitive personal details and security information, including one-time passwords, which they passed on to managers over email.

Police suspect international connections and said that such fake call centers operating from one place for a couple of months are regularly busted across India.
