Jeddah FMs Meeting Ahead of Arab League Summit with Syria’s Return

Arab foreign ministers met in Jeddah ahead of the Arab League summit headed by Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has taken over the rotating presidency of the Arab League summit from Algeria, and Syria’s attendance has been welcomed after years of isolation.

The transfer of the presidency took place during a meeting for Arab foreign ministers in Jeddah, where they discussed the agenda and draft resolutions ahead of the summit.

The summit comes at a time of various political developments, including the ongoing Sudan crisis, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and Syria’s readmission to the body.

This year’s summit is the first to be attended by Syria since the country’s membership was suspended in 2011.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad will attend Friday’s summit.

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan underscored the need for unity among Arab countries to overcome mutual challenges and difficulties.

The foreign ministers are meeting as part of preparatory sessions that have been held throughout the week ahead of Friday’s summit.
