Authorities in Kansas City are investigating the shooting of a black teenager who was shot by a homeowner after he went to the wrong house to pick up his younger brothers.

The incident is raising questions about whether it was racially motivated, according to the authorities.

The 16-year-old was hospitalized with a life-threatening injury after he was shot while trying to pick up his younger twin brothers from a friend’s house.

Police say he went to the wrong house and was shot there.

Investigators will consider whether or not the suspect was protected by “Stand Your Ground” laws, according to Chief Stacey Graves.

The homeowner was taken into custody and placed on a 24-hour hold, but law enforcement released the suspect pending further investigation after consulting with the Clay County prosecutor’s office.

The shooter’s race has not been identified, but civil rights attorney Ben Crump told The Star that the shooter appears to be white.

The shooting is getting the full attention of the Kansas City Police Department, said Mayor Quinton Lucas, who attended the news conference.

The family has retained a Florida-based law firm, according to Crump, who has represented families in several high-profile cases, including those of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown, as well as Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd.
