Anti-abortion group aligns with Trump after recent criticism

The leader of an anti-abortion group, Marjorie Dannenfelser, aligned herself with former President Donald Trump on the issue of abortion, just weeks after criticizing his commitment to restricting access to the procedure.

Dannenfelser’s Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America group has previously stated that it would not support any White House candidate who did not at least support a 15-week federal abortion ban.

However, she recently described her meeting with Trump as “terrific,” stating that he had reiterated the need for exceptions in cases of rape, incest, and to protect the life of the mother.

Trump has often referred to himself as “the most pro-life president in American history,” but has sidestepped the issue of abortion in the early months of his 2024 bid.

Other Republican presidential hopefuls, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, and Senator Tim Scott, have varying positions on the issue of a national abortion ban.

Meanwhile, former Vice President Mike Pence’s advocacy group, Advancing American Freedom, has pushed for Congress to pass legislation including a national abortion ban beginning around six weeks.
