Trudeau pushes back against accusations he has done ‘nothing’ for environment

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau says it is cynical and false to accuse his government of having done nothing on climate change or the environment.

Trudeau says the NDP and Green Party are trying to pretend the Liberals haven’t taken any action, but he says a price on pollution, a ban on single-use plastics and protecting more land and water “is not nothing.”

As the campaign nears the sprint to the finish line, Trudeau is trying to convince voters who care about climate change that the Conservative plan is a step backwards and the NDP and Green plans are vague, magical thinking.

His opponents say Trudeau’s six years in power have only resulted in an increase in greenhouse gas emissions.

Trudeau is leaning heavily on the analyses of energy economist Mark Jaccard and former British Columbia Green party leader Andrew Weaver, who both ranked the Liberal climate plan ahead of the other parties.

The Liberal leader is campaigning in Mississauga this morning, a city in the Greater Toronto Area where the Liberals won all six seats in 2019.
