Pakistan court orders Sharif’s release

A Pakistani court has ordered the release of ex-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who was just two months into a 10-year jail sentence over corruption.

Both he and his daughter Maryam, who was convicted of abetting in the same trial in July, have had their sentences suspended.

The decision comes as part of an appeals process they had lodged.

The ruling comes just a week after Mr Sharif’s wife, Kulsoom Nawaz, died from cancer in London.
