Nikki Haley is moving closer to officially announcing her presidential campaign. Her supporters have received an email invitation for a launch event on February 15th in Charleston, where she will announce her candidacy. Haley, a former governor of South Carolina and former UN ambassador under President Trump, would become the first contender to run against her former boss, who is the only Republican seeking the 2024 nomination.

Recently, Trump campaigned in South Carolina and was joined by Governor McMaster and other GOP members. During the Trump administration, Haley faced conflicts with White House officials while enhancing her public image. Her 2018 departure sparked rumors of a challenge to Trump in 2020 or a replacement of Vice President Pence, but she did neither.

After the Capitol siege, Haley initially raised questions about Trump’s political future but said she wouldn’t challenge him in 2024. In 2021, she told The Associated Press that she wouldn’t run if Trump did, but she has since altered her stance. When asked about her change of heart, she told Fox News that “a lot has changed,” referencing US economic troubles and her desire to bring “new generational change,” which is a reference to Trump’s age.
