A man had a 23-inch dildo stuck up his backside for 24 hours before doctors were able to remove it.

In fact, it was wedged so deep that they actually had to invent a brand new tool to be able to get it out.

The 31-year-old patient, from Italy, took himself to hospital after he tried but was unsuccessful at removing the massive sex toy, visible in shocking x-ray images.

The man – who has not been named – said he had inserted the item into his rectum the day before but that it ‘was not removable by hand’.

Miraculously despite the size of the toy the man said the only discomfort he was feeling was mild abdominal pain.

He had no other worrying symptoms, the BMJ reports.

Medical professionals in Milan could not get the rubber dildo out using standard methods as they complained it was ‘too big and smooth’.

Grabbing devices which had previously been used in medical procedures were either too loose or too small for this particular case.

Instead they were able to craft a lasso-like implement to catch the end and drag it out.

They threaded a wire through a catheter tube in order to create a ‘noose’ they could insert into his colon.

Writing in the journal, lead medic Dr Lorenzo Dioscoridi said: ‘Several standard attempts with different extraction devices were made.

‘We finally succeeded in the endoscopic extraction of the device, catching the distal edge of the dildo with this guidewire lasso.

‘This device showed a technical advantage as compared with ordinary polypectomy snares, due to its much higher stiffness.’

The patient was allowed to return home on the same day as the procedure, and he later wrote a thank you note to the doctors for solving his ’embarrassing problem’ without needed to operate.

A month on from his trip to the hospital, he reported no lasting symptoms.
