Iran urges international response and denounces Israeli attacks in Gaza and Lebanon

On Friday, Iran denounced Israel’s recent airstrikes in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon and called for an international response to Israel’s aggressive actions. The ongoing tensions between Israel and the Palestinians during the Jewish Passover and the Muslim holy month of Ramadan have raised concerns about further escalation.

Nasser Kanani, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, stated that the attacks on Lebanon were a violation of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as a violation of international law and human rights, according to state media. Kanani demanded an effective and deterrent response from the international community to Israel’s aggressive actions.

Israel retaliated with airstrikes in Gaza and Lebanon after rocket attacks were launched from both territories. Israeli officials have accused the Palestinian militant group Hamas for the rocket attacks from Lebanon towards northern Israeli areas. Tehran is a significant ally of both Hamas and Lebanon’s Hezbollah.

The rocket attacks from Lebanon came after clashes between Israeli police and Palestinians at Jerusalem’s al-Aqsa Mosque.
