Gus Bradley joining Los Angeles Chargers as defensive coordinator

Former Jacksonville Jaguars coach Gus Bradley is joining his fourth football franchise.

Bradley has agreed to be the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers next season, according to multiple reports.

He was fired on Dec. 18 after leading the Jaguars to a 14-48 record in four seasons. Bradley, 50, began his NFL coaching career as a defensive quality control assistant in 2006 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, He was a Buccaneers linebackers coach until he became the defensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks in 2009.

Bradley joined the Jaguars in 2013. In his first season coaching there, the Jaguars were ranked No. 27 in yards allowed. When he left, the defense was ranked No. 6 in yards allowed. Last season, the Jaguars allowed the sixth-fewest rushing yards per attempt and fifth-fewest passing yards and passing scores.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Jan. 1 that Bradley would follow Chargers coach Anthony Lynn wherever he ended up. The Chargers hired Lynn last week.

The Washington Redskins and San Francisco 49ers were also interested in the former Jaguars coach.
