At least three killed, five injured in New Mexico biker rally shootout

According to local media reports, a violent shootout at a biker rally in the state of New Mexico resulted in the deaths of at least three individuals and left five others wounded. The incident took place during the annual Memorial Day motorcycle rally in the town of Red River, near Taos, as approximately 20,000 bikers gathered.

The shooting erupted at around 5 pm (2300 GMT) on Saturday, creating chaos among the large crowd. Red River Mayor Linda Calhoun confirmed the casualties and injuries in a video interview with Questa Del Rio News. She also mentioned that authorities had arrested several suspects related to the incident, which she described as a gang-related altercation. However, Mayor Calhoun did not disclose the specific gangs involved.

“All of the shooters have been apprehended,” she assured during the interview. Fortunately, no law enforcement officers, first responders, or local residents were harmed.

A law enforcement official, communicating through central dispatch, referred to the incident as a “rolling shootout” involving the Banditos Motorcycle Club and another unidentified group, as reported by The Taos News.

Eyewitness Eddie Cook, who spoke to the local ABC affiliate KOAT, recounted the panic that ensued in the midst of the crowd. He described people running and screaming as gunshots rang out.

Following the shooting, the mayor of Taos imposed a curfew from 10 pm to 4 am and implemented a ban on alcohol sales, as reported by The Taos News.
