European privacy regulator establishes a task force focused on ChatGPT

The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) forms a task force on ChatGPT, marking a significant step towards establishing a common policy for privacy rules on artificial intelligence.

This move follows Italy’s independent effort last month to regulate ChatGPT and similar AI products.

The EDPB has decided to create a task force to promote cooperation and information exchange on possible enforcement actions conducted by data protection authorities.

The goal is to create general policies that are transparent, not to punish ChatGPT owner OpenAI, which is backed by Microsoft Corp.

The EDPB is a self-governing body that oversees data protection regulations in the European Union and comprises national data protection watchdogs.

The task force was formed following a request from Spain earlier this week, and policy experts attended Thursday’s meeting to present their views and exchange ideas.
