Colombia presidential election heading to runoff with FARC deal critic on top

With over 99 percent of the votes counted, the presidential election in Colombia will be decided in a run-off.

The two candidates that will be facing off on June 17 are Senator Ivan Duque from the Democratic Center Party and former Bogota Mayor Gustavo Petro from Colombia Humana.

Duque, who is leading in the first round with over 39 percent of the vote, is a fierce critic of the 2016 peace deal that outgoing President Jose Manuel Santos struck with the communist rebel group FARC, and has vowed to overhaul it.

His leftist opponent, Petro, who supports the agreement, trails him with 25 percent of the vote.
