China Imposes Ban on Vessels in Taiwan’s Vicinity Due to Rocket Debris

China’s Maritime Safety Administration has announced that it will impose a ban on vessels in an area near Taiwan on Sunday due to the possibility of falling rocket debris, according to Taiwan’s Central News Agency.

The disruption coincides with tension in the region caused by Chinese military exercises around Taiwan, in response to a meeting between Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen and US House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy last week.

Taiwan’s government confirmed on Wednesday that China was planning a no-fly zone from April 16-18 during the meeting of G7 foreign ministers in Japan.

The ban will affect approximately 33 flights.
