Boat sinks off North Lebanon coast, killing 1 child

A boat capsized off the coast of north Lebanon, injuring over 30 people and killing at least one, the state-run National News Agency reported Saturday.

On the boat, which capsized off the coast of Akkar, were 37 people, both Syrian refugees trying to leave Lebanon illegally and Lebanese nationals. The Lebanese Army was able to save most of them from drowning, the NNA reported.

However, a 5-year-old child identified only as Khaled passed away.

The Lebanese Red Cross transferred him and four who were injured to a nearby hospital.
