On a Saturday evening, Polish pipeline operator PERN reported the detection of a leak in one line of the Druzhba pipeline, which plays a crucial role in transporting oil from Russia to Europe. Consequently, oil pumping through the affected line has been temporarily halted.
The leak was identified near Chodecz, situated in central Poland, specifically on one of the two lines constituting the western section of the Druzhba pipeline, through which crude oil is transported to Germany.
PERN confirmed that the second line is currently operational with no alterations, and local residents are not facing any health hazards due to the incident. The company is diligently investigating the cause of the leak to prevent any future occurrences.
As of now, PERN has not disclosed the potential impact on oil supply or provided an estimate for the duration of repairs on the affected line.
However, it assured that other sections of PERN’s infrastructure, including the Pomeranian section of the Druzhba pipeline, which is used for pumping crude oil from tankers to Poland and then onwards to Germany, are operating normally.
In response to the situation, firefighters and PERN’s emergency services have been deployed to the scene to secure the area and address the issue promptly. The safety and maintenance measures are a priority for the company to minimize the impact of the leak on the environment and local communities.
