The Saudi Council of Ministers, led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, has once again expressed its strong condemnation of recent acts against Islam in Sweden and Denmark, particularly the burning of the Quran. In an official statement published by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Cabinet described these actions as “disgraceful” and a clear violation of laws, customs, and international efforts to promote tolerance, moderation, and reject hatred.
The condemnations come amidst widespread international outrage over the burning of copies of the Quran in front of mosques and the embassies of predominantly Muslim countries in Sweden and Denmark. On Tuesday, a group calling themselves the “Danish Patriots” carried out Quran burnings outside the embassies of Iraq, Egypt, and Turkey in Copenhagen.
Both Denmark and Sweden have expressed their disapproval of these acts but have cited the protection of free speech as the reason they cannot intervene to stop the protesters.
Previously, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had issued a statement on Saturday strongly condemning the actions of hate groups and urging the governments of Sweden and Denmark to take necessary measures to prevent such incidents from recurring, as they are deeply disrespectful to religion.
