TORONTO – Terra Bruce Productions, the musical theatre company led by a founding member of the folk-rock band Great Big Sea, is preparing to make its mark on the Toronto theatre scene this year with two original shows.
One of the productions, “Let’s Dance! The Musical,” a jukebox musical featuring music from the early 1960s, will have performances at the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre in August, following successful runs in St. John’s, N.L., and Halifax.
The other show, titled “The Wild Rovers,” is set to debut in Toronto in October. It weaves a whimsical tale inspired by the Irish Rovers, a group of musicians that originated in Toronto during the 1960s.
Bob Hallett, the Chief Operating Officer of Terra Bruce Productions and a co-founder of Great Big Sea, expresses the company’s commitment to establishing a more permanent presence in Toronto. Terra Bruce Productions has recently acquired the Regent Theatre in Toronto and the Majestic Theatre in downtown St. John’s, N.L., with ongoing renovations planned for both venues.
Great Big Sea gained popularity in the 1990s with radio hits such as “When I’m Up (I Can’t Get Down)” and “Ordinary Day.”
With these upcoming productions and their investments in theatre spaces, Terra Bruce Productions aims to contribute to the vibrant theatre culture of Toronto, bringing unique and engaging musical experiences to audiences in the city.
