Clashes erupt at Palestinian refugee camp in Beirut

BEIRUT – Clashes broke out Wednesday afternoon between opposing Palestinian factions inside a Beirut-area refugee camp, a security source said.

The clashes were between the Fatah Intifada and Saaiqa groups inside the Shatila Palestinian refugee camp in southern Beirut.

“RPG and machine guns could be heard near the camp and a number of deaths and injuries were reported,” the source said.

The victims were transferred to a nearby hospital and the situation inside the camp remains hostile and dangerous, the source added.
